A characterful inglenook fireplace was carefully refreshed by restoring its substantial oak mantel beam alongside the surrounding exposed brick. Gentle, controlled surface cleaning lifted the heavy, aged finish from the timber without compromising its natural texture, allowing the oak grain to sit beautifully against the masonry and newly installed wood-burning stove.

What was needed
How the surface was prepared.
The work focused on the large oak fireplace beam and the visible inglenook setting. The existing dark coating and accumulated surface grime were removed with a measured, timber-sensitive process, while the adjoining brickwork was treated with care to preserve its character. The cleaned surfaces were left even, warm and ready for the client’s chosen finishing approach.
