A period Victorian staircase was carefully refreshed by Birmingham Sandblasting, bringing clarity back to its turned balusters, ornate newel posts and decorative timber panelling. Gentle, controlled surface cleaning lifted aged varnish, ingrained grime and discolouration without sacrificing the fine joinery detail, leaving the woodwork bright, even and ready for a new protective finish.

How the surface was prepared.
The restoration covered the staircase and associated landing woodwork across multiple floors, including the balustrade, turned spindles, handrails, newel posts and decorative panelling. Surfaces were assessed and protected before low-impact abrasive cleaning was applied in a controlled manner to remove the tired coating and accumulated dirt while preserving the Victorian profiles and crisp carved details. The prepared timber was left clean and consistent for the client’s chosen refinishing system.
